From September 22 to 25, CAF MIIRA took part in another edition of InnoTrans, the world’s leading international railway exhibition held in Berlin.
Over four days, manufacturers, operators and suppliers from across the railway industry came together to share ideas, technologies and developments that are shaping the future of sustainable mobility.
For CAF MIIRA, InnoTrans 2026 was an opportunity to showcase how our company continues to evolve beyond individual components and towards integrated solutions that create value throughout the entire asset lifecycle.
Through a combination of engineering, manufacturing, maintenance and innovation, we presented a clear vision of what modern railway partnerships should look like: one partner, one system, total performance.
Three demonstrations, one vision
Our stand was built around three exhibits representing the strategic pillars that define CAF MIIRA’s current and future direction.
Integral Wheelset Solutions: one system, total performance
The first exhibit was a complete wheelset assembly designed to represent our Integral Wheelset Solutions value proposition.
More than supplying individual components, CAF MIIRA’s approach focuses on delivering fully integrated systems that combine wheels, axles, gearboxes and associated components into a single optimized solution. This approach improves compatibility, simplifies logistics, reduces interfaces and helps customers achieve lower lifecycle costs through a single responsible partner.
The exhibit demonstrated how CAF MIIRA combines design, manufacturing, assembly, validation and lifecycle support capabilities to provide complete wheelset solutions tailored to modern railway requirements.
Maintenance & Spare Parts: extending asset life and maximizing performance
The second exhibit featured a complete wheelset displayed in two different conditions: one half maintained and overhauled, the other left in its original service condition.
This visual comparison provided a powerful illustration of the value that maintenance and lifecycle services bring to railway assets. It highlighted how proper maintenance strategies contribute to longer service life, improved reliability and enhanced operational performance while reducing total ownership costs.
CAF MIIRA’s Maintenance & Spare Parts business unit supports customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their assets through maintenance engineering, failure analysis, root cause investigations, overhaul services, obsolescence management and strategic spare parts supply.
The exhibit reinforced a key message shared throughout the event: creating value in the railway industry does not stop when a product is delivered. Long-term performance depends on the ability to support, maintain and continuously improve assets throughout their operational life.
Monneo gearboxes: engineering lighter solutions for the future
The third exhibit focused on gearbox technology and featured two single-stage Monneo gearboxes displayed side by side.
One gearbox represented the current Monneo design, while the second showcased the results achieved through CAF MIIRA’s latest lightweight engineering methodologies.
The objective was not to present a separate product family, but rather to demonstrate how advanced engineering tools, simulation techniques and component optimization can significantly reduce gearbox weight and dimensions while maintaining the same operational performance, reliability and robustness required by demanding railway applications.
Displayed next to each other, both gearboxes offered visitors a clear visual comparison of the progress achieved through this new design approach. The exhibit generated strong interest by demonstrating how innovation can deliver lighter, more compact and more efficient transmission solutions without relying on exotic materials or disruptive manufacturing processes.
This engineering philosophy will continue to play an important role in the development of future CAF MIIRA solutions, helping customers address key industry challenges related to energy efficiency, vehicle integration and sustainability.
Looking ahead
InnoTrans 2026 reinforced our belief that the future of the railway sector lies in integrated, sustainable and lifecycle-oriented solutions.
At CAF MIIRA, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of engineering across wheelsets, wheels, axles, gearboxes, maintenance services and spare parts, working closely with customers to deliver safer, more efficient and more sustainable railway systems.
We would like to thank everyone who visited our stand, shared their insights and contributed to meaningful discussions throughout the event. Your trust and collaboration continue to drive our commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
We look forward to seeing you again at future industry events.
